  English Salon  
What is English Salon?  
Once a week after school, students discuss education, culture, society, etc. of foreign countries in English.
Various exchange programs such as at cultural festival at school, Sakai city walks, etc. have done.

Purpose
To learn about social issues, international problems, history and culture, living conditions, etc. in overseas countries through exchange and activities with international students at the university
(short-term students, exchange students, teacher training students / invited by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology).
In particular, the "teacher-trainee international students," who are working as junior and senior high school teachers in their home countries, come from African and Latin American countries and provide Hirano high school students various opportunities to directly learn and deepen their understanding of the educational settings and the lives and cultures of high school students of the same age in those countries, and these interaction become a unique learning chance to bring a multifaceted perspective on global issues.

What we did in 2023
April - May
"English Salon" (Wednesdays after school) started as afterschool activity to learn Global issues with international students of Osaka Kyoiku University. Through Professor Aoi Nakayama Global Center, we recruited international students who were interested in participating in the program, and at the same time, invited first and second year high school students to join the program. After the first exchange meeting, each international student gave a presentation on the society and culture in his/her country, followed by a question-and-answer session with high school students.
June - July
At the “English Salon” participating students decided to give an English presentation at the Cultural Festival in September, Each group created poster for presentation in English. The students received advice from foreign students while working together and preparing for the presentation.
9th September
Hirano Campus "Cultural Festival" was held. In the Global Research Group Activity Booth, participants of English Salon activity gave English Presentations on the country profiles of international students. Two international students also participated in the event and supported the presentation of the high school students on their own countries and cultures (Uganda and Chile).
September - November 
Teacher training students (El Salvador, Chile, Uganda, Malawi, Zimbabwe) gave various lessons to the high school students. English lessons by teachers José and Natalia from El Salvador and Chile. Mathematics lesson by Mr. Edwin from Uganda. African music class by Ms. Hala from Malawi. English debate class by Ms. Tabani from Zimbabwe and Ms. Maureen from Malawi.
20th December
“Tour of Sakai City with International Students” A program to tour around Sakai City with five international students. We entered the Sakai Risho no Sha to learn about the history and culture of Sakai, a city that prospered through trade with the foreign countries.  They experienced Tea Ceremony with introduction of the ceremony by a professional Master of the Tea Ceremony. The tour moved to the Mozu Tumb area registered as a World Heritage Site and visited the Japanese garden in Daisen Park. It became a wonderful day and created a winter vacation memories together in Sakai City.

  Receiving a delegation from abroad  
12th July
25 international students from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the United States and 17 Hirano senior high school students participated in the exchange program.
After an introduction of the university in English by a representative of the university, the international students and high school students were divided into four mixed groups for a walking tour of Hiranogo.
They enjoyed walking around the Hirano area's shopping streets, temples and shrines, as well as Danjiri and summer festival stalls in the shrine precincts.

20th January, 2024
1. "Card Game with International Students The 66 participating students were divided into 11 groups, with one international student in each group, Each group was given a question on Global Agenda by the student in charge of moderating, and the students had to answer the question on their own.
The game is played in English as the program was conducted in English.
2. "Global Research Presentation” High school students present the results of their research on global issues in four areas.
International students participated in each field according to their own interests and actively asked questions and made comments from a global and multifaceted viewpoint.

  Multicultural Understanding Program  
21st February
This program is held in all first-year classes as part of English classes.
The program is held every year at the same timing and welcomes several international students from Osaka Kyoiku University.
Students learn about the society and culture of the international students' home countries through interacting with them.
