今年度の留学生と学ぶ社会課題プログラムの最後に、関西大学名誉教授の久保田真弓先生を招き、ジェンダーについて学ぶ体験型ワークショップ「ジェンダー視点で診断する社会・教育・メディア」を実施しました。開催場所は、大阪教育大学天王寺キャンパス　みらい教育創造館のセミナールーム。久保田先生はJICAボランティアとしてガーナで理数科教師として活動された経験を持ち異文化コミュニケーションのスペシャリストです。今回、SDGｓの課題の中でも「ジェンダー」を選んだのは、日常生活で身近な問題として理解でき、英語を使って無理なく話し合い学べるトピックだと思われることから。日本のジェンダーギャップ指数が世界的に見ても大変低い状況であるなか、実際のテレビCMや広告を見て分析したり、社会課題のエピソードを活用して体験し、クイズやワークシートをもとに、参加したみんなで話し合い、グループごとに発表しました。また、毛糸を使ったワークでは様々な社会課題とジェンダーとの繋がりを可視化することができ、参加者が体を使って思いを体験し、共有することができました。 

　参加した留学生や生徒からは、「ジェンダーについて新たな視点を知った、自分にとっての気づきがあり参加してよかった。」、「私たちの考え方が、いかにおかれている環境に影響を受けているかを知り、それを可視化するワークが興味深かった。社会背景の改善には、多くの分野の人々の参画が必要だと実感した。」、「ジェンダー問題は、女性にも男性にも影響するものであり、家庭や教育現場で性差、ジェンダーについて正しく教えることの大切さを認識した。」など、参加したことで多くの学びがあり、参加してよかったという意見が大半を占めました。 

外は雪がちらつく土曜日の午後でしたが、参加された皆さんが満足顔で帰ってくれたことが何より嬉しく思いました。 

“Gender Workshop in English with International Students” 

　As the highlight of this year's Social Issues Program with International Students, we invited Professor Emeritus Mayumi Kubota of Kansai University to conduct a participatory workshop to learn about gender, entitled “Society, Education, and Media Diagnosed from a Gender Perspective. The workshop was held in the seminar room of the Mirai Kyoiku Sozo  Kan, Osaka Kyoiku University Tennoji Campus. Dr. Kubota is a specialist in cross-cultural communication, having experience working as a JICA volunteer science and mathematics teacher in Ghana. Choosing “gender” among the SDG issues this time was because it is a topic that can be understood as a familiar issue in daily life and can be discussed and learned without difficulty using English among participants. With Japan's gender gap index being very low even by global standards, we analyzed the situation by looking at actual TV commercials and advertisements, used episodes of social issues to learn the gender issue more closely to the participants, discussed these issues with everyone who participated based on quizzes and worksheets, and presented findings to each group. In addition, the work with yarn allowed participants to visualize the connection between various social issues and gender, and participants were able to experience and share their thoughts and feelings using their bodies. 

　Participating international students and senior high school students commented on their comment sheet as, “I learned new perspectives on gender, and I am glad I participated because it was an eye-opening experience for me.” “I learned how our way of thinking is influenced by the environment in which we are placed, and the work to visualize it was interesting.” “ I realized that improving the social background requires the participation of people from many different fields.” ”I recognized that gender issues affect both women and men, and that it is important to teach gender equality correctly at home and in education. The majority of the participants said that they learned a lot from their participation and were glad to have attended. 

　Although it was a snowy Saturday afternoon, we were more than happy to see that all participants left with satisfied faces.
